OUR STORY

MEET FIBR. THE FAIR ALPACA BRAND. SOFT ON YOUR SKIN AS EASY ON YOUR CONSCIENCE. FIBR BRINGS RADICALLY COMFORTABLE BASICS, YOU ARE PROUD TO WEAR.

The fashion industry has some of the most complex and unfair supply chains in the world. FIBR believes that creating transparency is a first step towards fairness. Today, only 7% of fashion brands know where their materials come from.

That's why, we founded FIBR. â€‹

FIBR is an alpaca knitwear brand and social enterprise founded in 2020 by us, Ronja, Fran, Margot and Véro, who met whilst working in a knitting company in Ayacucho, Peru. We bring timeless, yet playful knitwear that is as soft on your skin as it is easy on your conscious! All our products are made in a Fairtrade knitting workshop in Ayacucho, Peru, the place where it all started.

Through FIBR we aim to explore ways to foster a more sustainable fashion industry, both by reducing environmental impact and enhancing fairness throughout supply chains. More so, we love sharing all of this with you, lovely customers, as we believe that this is where a huge power for change can be found!

How we do that? We work through different projects each of them leading to a unique and limited edition collection. For all of our projects we work together with different local partners in Peru. Curious to know more? Read all about ongoing and past projects below.

We can only change something, when we know how it works.

That's why the fashion industry needs transparency.

CURRENT PROJECT // Waste warrior scarf

In this project we're experimenting with setting up a yarn supply chain that relies on the recycling of waste yarn.

All our scarfs are made out of deadstock yarn from the warehouse of Solid Crafts in Ayacucho, Peru. Deadstock yarns are leftover yarns from previous collections that are not used anymore and are left to waste. By recycling deadstock yarn we prevent it from becoming waste and we don't need to buy newly produced yarn to make your new favorite scarf.

The scarfs are made of a mix of alpaca and acrylic. Acrylic, sustainable? you might think. Yes off course, we consider recycling waste material one of the most sustainable ways of yarn sourcing as we use yarn, that would otherwise end up in landfill and don't have to rely on the production of new material. (Don't forget that also the sourcing of natural material has it's impact on the planet)

On top of that, all scarfs are limited edition as the quantities we have depend on the amount of yarn that's left in stock.

The Scarfs are knitted in the Fairtrade knitting workshop of Solid Crafts in Ayacucho and shipped to Belgium by boat.

PAST PROJECT // Fairchain sweater

IMG_6004.jpg

In our first project, we've produced a sweater with  a 100% transparent supply chain. We believe that transparency is key to a more fair fashion industry. With this project we wanted to showcase how such transparency could look like.

The sweaters were made out of 100% baby alpaca yarn, sourced through a farmers' cooperation in Peru and knitted in the Fairtrade workshop in Ayacucho.

OUR TEAM

So many people have told us we are too ambitious by both changing the regular supply chain and selling a product.

But how can you sell a product if you don’t know the origin and don’t know the exact supply chain? So too ambitious? Let’s first try!
